*The danish government will finally take account of the economic disaster hitting danish forests

The Danish conservative-liberal Government won the February elections and it will remain in office for 4 more years. The Government has included forests in its new action programme:

"Long term viability for forestry:

The Government will establish a committee for evaluating long term viability for forestry, as well as the opportunities of improving the economic situation for private forestry, including net wealth taxation".

The Government committee for "evaluating long term viability for forestry, as well as the opportunities for improving its economic situation" shall present its report already on 1st May this year.

The Danish Forest Association is happy that the catastrophic situation of private forests in Denmark is finally taken into account in the Government's action programme. For us it is unthinkable that the Government would do nothing to solve the evident and manifest problems affecting Danish forestry:

• Revenue is smaller than ever.

• Taxation is constantly increasing while revenue is decreasing.

• Staff and know-how are disappearing.

• Opportunities for maintaining and improving the value of forest nature are decreasing.

• The typhoon on 8th January felled a whole year's wood harvest in Denmark, it destroyed a great amount of forest - and it will spoil the Scandinavian wood market for many years to come.
